How to get started? Concept
Step 1 - Add <WUB> HTML tags to your web site project Web Update Client can do its job only if web pages are
properly prepared for it. When you decide which parts of web page's
contents you want to allow your customer to update you should enclose
them in <wub></wub> HTML tags. You can add
those tags directly into HTML code using any text or specialized HTML
code editor, or you can use Dreamweaver® with tag extension
file included with Web Update Builder installation. Recommended
additional readings: Step 2 - Start Web Update Builder and fill in your customer data Fill in data fields with customer data. Name and logo image will be displayed in Web Update Client. FTP access properties are necessary to allow Web Update Client to send updates to web site. HTTP address is also required and you will use proxy server settings if necessary. Step 3 - Select web pages for Web Update Client You have prepared web pages in Step 1 and now you have to tell Web Update Client what those pages are. Use Browse to point to local folder where you keep your customer's web site and use Include subfolder option if necessary. Then click Scan and Web Update Builder will analyze all HTML files and mark those that have <wub> tags. Step 4 - Upload web pages list to server using FTP When you make the list of web pages for Web Update Client it has to be uploaded to the web server. Just click Upload in Web Update Builder to complete this step. Each time Web Update Client is started it downloads list of web pages to work with so if you want to add or remove some pages later you do not have to make new Web Update Client, just upload new list to its location. NOTE: do not forget to upload pages themselves, uploading just the web pages list is not enough, the client program will access the pages directly on the server so you have to have their versions with wub tags online. Step 5 - Make Web Update Client and send it to your customer Everything is ready, <wub> tags are in their places, customer data entered in Web Update Builder, list of web pages for Web Update Client prepared... Now click Make WUC to create Web Update Client and send it to your customer. Dreamweaver is registered trademark of Macromedia Corporation |
