Warning - upgrade users read this information carefully!
If you have some internet screen savers made with old versions
(3.6, 4.0) of the program in circulation, pay attention that updating
their web locations using this version (4.5 or above) of the program
will make them display text messages incorrectly. Screen savers
made with old versions of the program will display text code labels
instead of text messages when they update themselves with changes
made with this newer version. The effect is caused by changes to
screen saver scenario (script) format which were necessary to achieve
more efficient screen saver updates by extracting text messages
from screen saver scenario (script) to a separate file.
You have two options to handle this situation properly:
1. Continue to update old screen savers using old scenario (script)
format
Use "Make screen saver v4.0" option from the Tools menu
to make a screen saver with scenario (script) in old format. Please
note that if you choose to work this way you can not take advantage
of features introduced in newer versions of the program (e.g. flash
files). Anything not supported with the old version will be ignored
in the generated scenario (script).
2. Make controlled transition to the new scenario (script) format
- Make new version of a screen saver and put it on a new
web location.
- Update any screen saver download links to point to the
new version and replace old version of the screen saver with new
one in all other distribution channels you have in use.
- Make changes to the old version still on the old web location
using "Make screen saver v4.0" option from the Tools
menu so it displays just one text screen with a short explanation
what happened, a call to download new version and a link (consider
using URL command here) to the screen saver download page.
Upgrading from version 4.5 to 5.0 and above
Moving from version 4.5 to version 5.0 required more changes to
the screensaver script format. SCR files created with version 5.0
should work ok with scripts created with version 4.5, but the opposite
direction will not work.
