If you would like to have schedules of favorite NHL teams in your Active Desktop Calendar then read on as there are different two ways how you can make that happen. One is by connecting directly to a schedule posted on the team's web site and the other is through traditional downloading and importing procedure.
Here we teach you both ways and if you get into any trouble you can always contact us for assistance. The only condition is that the team web site offers an iCal link to the schedule file.
WAY 1: Direct connection with a schedule file
- Locate the iCal/ICS link to the schedule on a team's web site.
Since NHL teams web sites are not all exactly the same we can give you only general directions for this step. Visit the team's web site, find the Schedule in the main navigation menu, look for the Download option and go there.
- Copy the schedule file's link address.
Again, on different team web sites they might call the schedule file differently, but you just look for references to iCal file, ICS format, Mac, iPhone, iPad version or something similar. It might be buried on some page but in the end you should find the necessary link. Then right click on the link and choose the Copy Shortcut option.
- Access the Layers dialog box in your calendar.
To do that simply right click on Active Desktop Calendar's date icon in the taskbar and choose the Layers option.
- Add a new calendar data layer with the team schedule.
To complete this step click on the "Add Web layer" button, type in the team's name as the "Web layer name", then click into the "Web ICAL address" text box and press Ctrl-V on the keyboard to paste the schedule file's link. Finally click Ok twice to close all dialog boxes.
WAY 2: Download and import a schedule file
- Locate the iCal/ICS link to the schedule on a team's web site.
Since NHL teams web sites are not all exactly the same we can give you only general directions for this step. Visit the team's web site, find the Schedule in the main navigation menu, look for the Download option and go there.
- Download the schedule file.
Again, on different team web sites they might call the schedule file differently, but you just look for references to iCal file, ICS format, Mac, iPhone, iPad version or something similar. It might be buried on some page but in the end you should find the necessary link. Then right click on the link and choose the Save Target As option. You should get a file with extension .ics.
- Rename the schedule file.
If it is not already named after the team who's schedule it is, we recommend you to rename the downloaded schedule file now because that file name will show up in the list of calendar data layers as the layer name and you should be able to easily identify it later.
- Import a new calendar data layer with the team schedule.
To complete this step double click on Active Desktop Calendar's date icon in the taskbar to bring up Notes View, then choose the Import option from the Data menu, select the downloaded/renamed .ics schedule file, click Open, choose "Import as new layer" as the target layer and finally click Finish.
